Affiliate Disclosures on Twitch and Live Streaming

Live audiences turn over constantly. Repeat disclosures aloud, keep an on-screen label, and disclose beside the affiliate links in your panels and chat.

Twitch and other live-streaming platforms combine two of the hardest disclosure problems: the audience arrives and leaves continuously, and the content is largely audio-visual and fast-moving. Affiliate links in the stream, the panels, or the chat all trigger the disclosure duty.

The rules for live streams

  • Repeat the disclosure periodically throughout the stream, because viewers join at different times and a single early disclosure misses everyone who arrives later.
  • State it aloud when you promote or recommend, and where possible keep a persistent on-screen label or overlay.
  • Disclose in the panels and chat where you post affiliate links — for example, a clear note beside the link in a “my gear” panel.
  • For clips and VODs saved from the stream, ensure the disclosure is present in the saved content too.

Panels and 'my setup' links

Streamers often list affiliate links to their equipment in profile panels. Each such link is an affiliate recommendation and needs a clear disclosure next to it — a bare “my gear” heading is not a disclosure.

A worked example

Compliant: a persistent on-screen overlay notes that your panels contain affiliate links; when you actively recommend a headset, you say “my link is an affiliate link and I get a commission”; and each panel link is labeled “affiliate.” Non-compliant: a “My Gear” panel full of affiliate links with no label, and a single verbal mention hours into a stream that most current viewers never heard.

Streaming-specific pitfalls

  • Bot-posted link commands (for example, a “!gear” command) that drop affiliate links with no disclosure.
  • Subscriber-only or hype moments where a rushed promo skips the disclosure.
  • Exported clips and highlights that keep the recommendation but lose the overlay.
  • Cross-posting the same promo to other platforms without re-adding a platform-appropriate disclosure.

Streaming checklist

  • Persistent on-screen affiliate-link overlay.
  • Spoken disclosure at each active recommendation, repeated periodically.
  • Labels beside links in panels, pinned chat, and bot commands.
  • Disclosure preserved in saved VODs and clips.

This mirrors the approach for live streams and Stories generally.
